Just like heaven

Cheesy I know, but I recently found this video clip on youtube from 1989 - this was the first time I saw The Cure on TV, and I was blown away. 17 years later, I have pretty much everything they've ever put out and been to a lot of concerts.

Funny how things from our early teenage years can stay with us for a long time. It's hard to imagine getting as engrossed in a band today. Smith is a genius though, and there's nobody quite like him. You can't really say that about many people in music.

I've never met him, despite once or twice having the opportunity to possibly organise it for work reasons. I don't think I want to - it would be too weird. Anyway, Just Like Heaven from the 1989 MTV US Video Music Awards.

I'm a product of the 80s. I dig the Cure. But have you seen Robert Smith lately? He hasn't aged well.

Yes, I know. He's starting to look a little like an overweight middle aged housewife. Which is a shame. But on the other hand, some of the recent music he's made has been great. I went to see them at the Royal Albert Hall in London earlier this year - they played for 3 hours, 40 minutes - an epic gig. They played pretty much every single they've ever done and then some. I actually shot quite a bit of video at that gig, and it occurs to me that my blog may be the place to lose some of it into the wild!

3 hours+! Holy crap. That's amazing. So many shows lately seem to be of the 90 minute variety.
